(Tilburg, 1981) studied architecture at the Eindhoven University of Technology but is mainly concerned with exploring and addressing the spatial and cultural aspects of the major challenges we face. He does this in various roles.

For example, as a partner at Bright, an R&D laboratory for the living environment; where he designs at all scale levels of the energy transition and builds a rooted and circular neighborhood economy. He was studio master for the City Deal Openbare Ruimte. As co-curator of IABR–Down to Earth, Thijs was involved in various exhibitions on the energy transition as a lever for socially inclusive city-making. Between 2018 and 2023, he was head of the master's program in urban planning at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture (RAVB). As a board member of Coöperatie 5711, he is involved in the development of shared real estate in Amsterdam Noord. He was a guest student at Hong Kong University and recently completed the Collaborations Track of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
