Moving towards biobased & nature-inclusive contruction
‘Biobased and nature-inclusive construction must grow to become the new normal.' With these words, the Board of Government Advisors on the Built Environment (CRa) kicked off the program A New Building Culture in 2022. The goal of the program is to stimulate biobased and nature-inclusive building across the entire chain—from the cultivation of crops to their application in construction.

This document offers governments, housing associations, cooperatives, and other commissioning parties concrete lessons and tools to implement biobased and nature-inclusive construction in practice. The insights are based on the outcomes of projects from the program A New Building Culture and conversations with stakeholders about practical possibilities and the changes needed in commissioning, regulations, financing, design, research, supply chains, and materials.
The CRa invites everyone to contribute to a new building culture—one that is not just about the number of homes or profits, but about creating a sustainable, healthy, and nature-inclusive living environment for all. Now and in the future.
